Ripon Grammar School

Ripon Grammar School was recognised as ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED in 2012 and has been serving the community of Ripon for well over 450 years. Although our rich heritage and tradition inform much of our daily work today, we also pride ourselves on being forward-looking.
We have around 860 students, 270 of whom are in the sixth form. In addition, the school’s boarding houses can accommodate up to 100 students on a weekly or termly basis. This makes us unique in Yorkshire as the only maintained state school with boarding facilities.
Academic standards are very high. Most students gain places at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. We believe students must leave not only well qualified academically but also with a broad range of experiences and skills.
Ripon Grammar School’s pursuit of academic excellence is a major goal. Yet the value of an all-round education, where talent in drama, music and sport is nurtured and developed, is also recognised. Students must be given the confidence to contribute to the school in any area where they have talent. We also provide many opportunities for students to develop leadership skills and to take responsibility as they move up through the school.
